Falkirk Council are running a new campaign to encourage local residents to recycle more.  The new Waste Regulations for Scotland mean that the 52.7% recycling rate for all Falkirk household waste in 2011 is not enough.

The council are calling on local residents to recycle the Right Materials using the Right Containers – and to start these recycling efforts Right Now.

As a waste management contractor we understand the importance of recycling as much as possible and diverting waste from landfill.  We would encourage everyone to recycle more – and to recycle materials properly.

Please visit www.falkirk.gov.uk/services/corporate_neighbourhood/estates_management/waste_management/household_recycling/zero_waste.aspx for more information on the campaign and how you can play your part.

We were approached by UZ Arts to ask if we could help them.  They had a host of performers entertaining at the opening of the Helix Falkirk on 14th September 2013.  One performance – ‘The Tip’ – required a skip (believe it or not!), and we were happy to show our support by hiring the skip out at no cost.  The day was a huge success and many people turned out to see showings of The Tip.

Illegal waste operators break laws, profit from waste crime, harm the environment – and steal business from responsible skip hire and waste management companies like ourselves.  They give our industry a bad name.

We are responsible in our treatment, recycling and disposal of waste, and work hard to meet our legal obligations and to exceed our environmental targets.  All of this comes at a high financial cost – which makes it impossible to compete sustainably against illegal waste operators.

The Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) is working in partnership with police forces and other agencies to stop illegal waste management activity.  They want to take a stand against the criminals involved.

Please support legitimate and responsible businesses like us by reporting any suspected criminal waste management activity.  If you have any information at all you can contact SEPA directly – details at www.sepa.org.uk/about_us/contacting_sepa.aspx - or you can contact Crimestoppers anonymously by calling 0800 555 111 or by using the anonymous online reporting form which can be found at www.crimestoppers-uk.org.
